This study examines Noe Jordania’s perspective on a brief but significant article published by Niko Nikoladze in the journal Kvali on the occasion of the death of Giorgi Tsereteli.
Jordania, writing under the pseudonym P. Petridze, responded to Nikoladze’s article, providing a detailed critique. Jordania did not share the views of the renowned Georgian journalist, arguing that Nikoladze had failed to adequately represent Tsereteli’s work and had evaluated it from a narrow, limited perspective. It should also be emphasized that although Jordania criticized this specific article, he still portrayed Niko Nikoladze as a worthy and exemplary figure who devoted forty years selflessly to the service of the nation and the country.
After reviewing the article, one may disagree with Jordania’s assessment. The prominent Georgian public figure and publicist Niko Nikoladze provides a concise, yet highly serious and objective evaluation of Giorgi Tsereteli’s work, which often provoked divergent opinions among his contemporaries. It is noteworthy that among Tsereteli’s contemporary critics, Nikoladze offers one of the most realistic and objective conclusions, and his assessments closely align with the opinions of Tsereteli’s eminent contemporary, Akaki Tsereteli.
The critical-literary analysis of the „kudabzikoba“ reflected in Giorgi Tsereteli’s literary works-that is, characters embodying the traits of the so-called „autumnal nobility“-was conducted by Niko Nikoladze. As is well known, the artistic depiction of „kudabzikoba“ as a socio-historical and psychological phenomenon in literature was later perfected by the great talent of David Kldiashvili.
