Vazha-Pshavela, Morteza Fatemi, the Persian translation of “The Tale of the Fawn“Abstract
The article examines the Persian translation, produced by Morteza Fatemi, of Vazha-Pshavela›s story “The Tale of the Fawn“. We note that, against the background of the rich tradition of translation from Persian into Georgian, translations from Georgian into Persian are comparatively fewer. For this reason, the labor undertaken by the translator is especially worthy of appreciation. We discuss the highly interesting life and career of Morteza Fatemi.
On the basis of a comparative analysis of the original and the translation, we have sought to identify the lexical-semantic, stylistic, and phraseological difficulties present in the process of translation. Particular attention is devoted to the difficulties of Vazha-Pshavela›s language and to its individual character, which represents a particular challenge for the translator.
The results of the textual analysis establish that the translator, for the most part, successfully preserves the semantic invariant of the original, along with the dynamism and expressiveness of the narrative, although in certain instances a transformation, omission, or descriptive rendering of phraseological units may be observed.
The skill of the translator of “The Tale of the Fawn“ ensures the preservation of the text›s artistic and semantic richness, which ultimately accounts for the adequacy of the translation and its high artistic value.
