Abstract

Daniel Piphia was a public figure of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, deeply devoted to his homeland. He was a fervent fighter for Georgia’s independence and served as the responsible propagandist of the Zugdidi District Committee of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. At the age of twenty-eight, he fell victim to the repressions of the Bolshevik regime, unjustly accused and executed in September 1924.
Notably, his creative works survived Bolshevik censorship, saw the light of day, and allowed us to experience the true power of his poetry. We are captivated by his poems, epics, prose, translations, and other writings. It is undeniable that Daniel Piphia spent his combative spirit in the crucible of fighting injustice, earning him the enduring reputation of a warrior uncompromising against evil. This article does not attempt to present the entirety of D. Piphia’s oeuvre. Our focus is limited to his poetic texts, in which the clarity and purity of the source convey profound love for the homeland and the struggle for a better future.

Thus, Daniel Piphia is a figure burdened by a heavy life. Orphan hood, material hardship, and health problems did not diminish his boundless love for his country or his zeal for the fight toward a brighter future-a fight for which he ultimately sacrificed his life.
