The present study examines the distinctive features of Gurian dialect vocabulary in the work of the contemporary Georgian poet Zurab Gorgiladze. The aim of the research is to analyze the role of dialectisms in shaping the poet’s artistic language and their significance in enriching the lexical repertoire of the Georgian language.
The study provides a detailed analysis of specific Gurian dialectisms, including „ortsokhebi“, „lafaro“, „kvendghi“, „bghesi“, „dvrini“, „katari“, and „pushti“. Based on etymological investigation, it was determined that most of these dialectisms are related to Old Georgian or common Kartvelian roots.
The research demonstrates that Gorgiladze employs dialect vocabulary not merely as a stylistic device, but also as a significant instrument for preserving cultural heritage. The poet successfully integrates dialectisms into complex poetic forms, where they frequently appear as key elements of the verse, enhancing the emotional impact of the poetry.
The results of this study are important both for the analysis of contemporary Georgian poetry and for the development of dialectology and lexicology.
